Cutting was done by hand using an x-Acto hobby saw with a very fine toothed blade (A saw with very small teeth). The cut was done while holding the saw blade against a small pine block to ensure the cut remained vertical and square (perpendicular) to the hull.

The sheave block was then used again when marking for the second cut. An x-Acto knife was used to carefully carve out a clean rectangular hole for the sheave block.

The curved rail ends for the upper most poop deck railing were made from a scrap piece of pine block. Here, a finished piece is compared to a rough-cut piece before sanding to shape.

To finish-off the deck ends, a small square strip of wood was glued to the leading edge of the deck and kept at deck height.
