Kit Bashing Billing's Norske Løve
(Kit No. 437: a 70-Gun Danish Warship c.1765 in 1:75 Scale)

I received Billing Boats' kit No. 437 as a Christmas present back in 2002. This Expert Level wooden Plank-on-Bulkhead kit is a 1:75 scale replica of a real 70-gun warship named "Norske Løve" which had a service life in the Danish Navy from 1765 to 1798. She is a beautiful ship with very graceful lines!

Some of the original Norske Løve plans from 1765 were found on-line in the
Danish Naval Archives. While comparing the kit plans to the original 1765 plans, it became clear that the kit actually represented a mix between two different ships: an earlier Norske Løve of 1735-1764 (with a lanteen mizen sail, round fighting tops, and earlier rigging plan) and the later Norske Løve of 1765-1798 (with proper hull lines). After taking time to map out all the kit changes I wanted to make, model construction began, finally, on the 3rd of January, 2003. Construction continues and is on-going...

Kit modifications will include: creating new re-sized 3D wooden Gun Ports; resizing the Cannons; re-designing the Stern, Bow, and Quarter Deck; adding Round Houses (the officer's washrooms at the ship's bow); re-sizing some of the Deck Hatches; opening up the Galleries; building a furnished Wardroom, Galley, and Captain's Cabin; building a new Ship's Wheel; adding Ship's Boats; replacing the improper "round" Fighting Tops; replacing the full Lanteen Mizen Sail with a standard Trapezoid Mizen Sail; updating the Rigging Plan by 50 years; beefing up the Head Timbers; etc, etc...
