Misc Pictures: Early Ships and Control-Line Flying Planes

My very first scratch-built ship was an "English galleon c. 1588" designed from a picture I came across in a newspaper. It was constructed in 1965 using carved pine for the keel, laminated wooden tooth-pics for the frames, and bamboo splints for the planking. The "Dragon" is now in desperate need of a restoration and cleaning after more than fourty years without a case.

A kit-bashed small merchant ship c.1490 built many years ago. The additional main deck details were researched and scratch-built - including the ship's "above deck" stove. One day I will add sails and complete the rigging.

With the help of my two kids, we designed and scratch-built flying control-line model planes powered by Cox .049 gas engines. We spent many happy hours flying them in our local parks.
