Scratch Building Le Gros Ventre
French Supply/Exploration Ship c.1766

I am building "Le Gros Ventre" as a scratch build in Swiss Pear at 1:48 scale. "Le Gros Ventre" was a famous French Royal Navy gabare with a Naval Service Date from 1766 to 1779. For ship history and stats please click on the link at the bottom of this page. If you want to scratch build your own Le Gros Ventre then you can: join a free online forum (see details below); decide which scale you want to build in (1:48 or 1:36); order the monograph in that scale; and then buy or mill your own wood. Construction details and pictures are presented logically in a clear step by step process in the free online forum and you are encouraged to ask questions and take part in discussions as you build.

The monograph (with very precise and detailed plans from Gerard Delacroix in either 1:48 or 1:36 scales) can be purchased from Pier Books Inc. in the United States or directly from Ancre in France. Various packages of exotic milled hardwoods can be purchased from Dave and Ev for both 1:48 and 1:36 scales at the Lumber Yard in the United States. Free online help is made available at Le Gros Ventre Forum thanks to Gilles Korent and his team of experts. (Note: I am not affiliated with any of the above companies - just a happy customer!)
