  The verse teaches that divorce is not allowed for a Christian. Some seek an escape hatch by saying that Paul is only making an illustration. Well... so what? That still does not negate the Biblical truth that marriage is for life! No divorce! Paul is using something that is Biblically true to illustrate that the only way of escape from the law is Death! And he uses marriage because the only way out of marriage is Death. And even if they still carp the truth is further emphasized in 1Co_7:39.
