Commentary
Surprize everybuddies.... This verse says NOTHING about
ELDERS!!! NOTHING!!! NADA!!! ZILCH~~~ XERO!!!
EPPIS!!! 0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0Oo0Oo0oO0Oo0oO
The word 'elder' is only found Once in the entire book of
Hebrews; 11:2 and it's not talking about our modern-day "duly
authorized/ordained elders". That concept is nowhere in the entire
Bible.
Obey; [o how the monkies love that word... obey!].
The Greek word is 'peitho'; #3982. Found about 55 times it is rendered "obey[ed]" only 7 times in the KJV.
The LITV & MKJV are correct; It means trust; be persuaded; have confidence in; yield [to]. See these vss;
• persuade, 3
Matt 28:14; 2Cor 5:11; Gal 1:10
• persuaded, 15
Matt 27:20; Luke 20:6; Acts 13:43; Acts 14:19; Acts 18:4; Acts
19:26; Acts 21:14; Acts 26:26; Rom 8:38; Rom 14:14; Rom 15:14; 2Tim
1:5; 2Tim 1:12; Heb 6:9; Heb 11:13
• persuadest, 1
Acts 26:28
• persuading, 2
Acts 19:8; Acts 28:23
Example 1; In a "church" where some people have left, the
suspender-snapper gets up and issues an order for those in the
congregation to have nothing to do with those who left.
This is an -order- and has nothing to do with persuading anybody to do
anything. Or he tells you that he is going to -bind your conscience- to
attend all the so-called "stated meetings of the church" unless
"providentially hindered". [See my paper on this here;]. He claims he is "exercising his authority" and by so doing he is lording it over people.
Now since he is the so-called "god-ordained elder" you must "obey" him
because to disobey constitutes rebellion against this "god-ordained
elder" which is in effect rebellion against God! This is against the
teaching of Messiah in the NT and is not what Heb 13:17 is talking about.
Example 2; I'm a professing Christian. I'm over there in the bar busting
suds, watching football, chuckling at the off-color jokes going around
and eyeballing those 2 young babes down the other end of the bar! My
wife comes in and confronts me with my sin from the Scriptures. I am
struck with conviction and repent. I have just "obeyed" my wife!! I
have Yielded to her admonition because I have been Persuaded by her Biblical
argument that I am in sin.
This is what Heb 13:17 is talking about.
---
submit... hupeiko; This is a 'hapox legomina'! That means
it's found only once in the Bible; here in this verse. Therefore it
don't mean 'submit' in the same way the rest of the NT
means it because that's another, different word; hupotassō #5293. This
verse has nothing
to do with the doctrine of submission and "obeying" those you submit
to... which the monkeys say is the "church elders". The word "elder"
isn't even in close proximity to this verse/chapter. "Elder" is found
only once in the whole book even. & it aint this chapter. It's
Heb_11:2 & there it don't mean "Paster Looie Blooie"! The 2
examples above work just as well here too.
Now... since verse 7 says Nothing about "submitting to" or "obeying"
anybody... and verse 17 says Nothing about "Elders"... where do these
monkie hot-shots come up with their False doctrine of... "Submit to and
obey your god-ordained elders"? Huh? Where? Where? I'll tell ya
where. They get it from their own mass of fallen grey matter;
THAT'S where!!! And what is the foundation upon which rests this false
doctrine of eldership? Nothing else but human pride rooted in the Flesh
whereby men love to "rule over" and control other men.
Matt 20:
25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the
princes of the Gentiles -exercise dominion- over them, and they
that are great -exercise authority- upon them.
26 But it ~~~shall not be so among you:~~~ but
whosoever will be great among you, let him be your deacon;
27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your bondslave:
28 Even as the Son of man came not to be deaconed unto, but to deacon, and to give his life a ransom for many.
