SCHOOL
STATIONARY DISTRIBUTION PROJECT |
| |
Book Distribution, one among ICA projects, works
closely
with miserable primary students at poor remote areas in Ankor Borei District,
Takeo Province near Cambodia-Vietnam border.
Seeing lots of difficulties and obstacle such as six-month flood
per year, lacking of study materials, less-value on education, poor situation etc,
that made many students dropped out, in 2005 Mr. Plong Pisith and
Huot Samnang, ex-student at Royal University of
Fine Art, came up with an idea of delivering books and study materials to help
make the situation a bit better. We conduct this activity twice a year, one at
the beginning of school year to distribute books to all students and another one
at the end of the year to reward only top five outstanding
students. |

Departure for Takeo Province |
Stories from the kids, the kids’
parents and the community
|

 |

"I pledged to send my
children to school. I never thought that education will do any good to my
kids’ future,” said a woman.
"I am encouraged by the
kind behaviors of the brothers and sisters who contributed their pocket
money to buy study materials for us, “said the kids.
"I promise to study
hard and I will never give up my learning,” said one girl student.
"I want to express my
gratitude to sisters and brothers for giving me clothes and learning materials.
My family cannot afford these. Now, I can go to school,” said one boy.
"This shows the Khmer
characteristic. Khmer must help Khmer. These young people give me hope. I
am disappointed by groups of wealthy people who ignore the poor and take advantage
of the vulnerable people,” said an old man.
"Since we received
support from you, the whole community supported their kids to come to school.
And the children are enthusiastic with their study. They do study harder,”
said a teacher.
"I walked to school and
watched the class from the window. With your support, I now can sit and learn
properly in my class. Thanks for making my dream come true,” said a young
boy.
