Congratulations on your induction into the Order of the Arrow (OA). To give you a brief history of the OA, it was founded in 1915 by two men, E. Urner Goodman and Carrol A. Edson. These men served as Camp Directors at a Summer Camp on the Delaware River between Delaware and New Jersey. The camp was known as Treasure Island. Indians first used the camp as a harvest ground for crops, therefore the OA is based off of old Indian traditions.
Currently, the OA boasts over 180,000 members. The OA is divided into five regions with sections inside the region, lodges inside the section, and chapters inside each lodge. The Chapter you have been inducted into is the Four Rivers Chapter, which is part of Nentico Lodge 12. Nentico Lodge was commisioned in 1922 by E. Urner Goodman himself in the Baltimore Area Council.
The OA has created a Web site to allow new members to better understand what the OA is and does. It is called the New Member Jumpstart. Click here to learn more.
So again, congratulations and we look forward to spending time with you.
Sincerely,
The 2008
4R Officers
